Montblanc’s History

In 1906 the stationer Claus-Johannes Voss, the banker Alfred Nehemias and the engineer August Eberstein recognize the signs of a “modern” new century. Ingenuity and Imagination help the fountain pen to make its technical and commercial breakthrough as a writing instrument. The three decided to produce fountain pens, placing the cornerstones for the future internationally successful company Montblanc with this “Joint Venture”.

1909 Introduction of the technically improved fountain pen “ Montblanc”. The name “ Montblanc” is registered as a trademark and is used for all writing instruments produced by the company.

1913 The brand logo the Montblanc star is born. Since then, Montblanc products wear the unmistakable rounded star, representing the snow-covered peak of Mont Blanc – the highest European mountain, which symbolizes the brand’s commitment to the highest quality and finest European craftsmanship.

1924 Launch of the legendary Meisterstück and the beginning of its successful career as the world’s most famous writing instrument.

1988 Integration of Montblanc in the group Richemont.

1997 Montblanc attracts great attention and recognition among top international jewellers when it participates in the SIHH watch fair in Geneva for the very first time.

2003 Montblanc presents the TimeWalker watch collection for people who are cosmopolitan, dynamic and have a love for pure, aesthetic design.

2006 The company celebrates its 100th birthday and for this occasion Montblanc creates a diamond with 43 facets, cut in the form of the Montblanc signet. For this Anniversary Montblanc launches the Star Chrono GMT Perpetual Calendar, adorned with the Montblanc Diamond in the crown.

2007 Montblanc and the Swiss Watch Brand Minerva, founded in 1858, join forces to create the “Institut Minerva de Recherche en Haute Horlogerie”.

The “Collection Villeret 1858” is introduced for the first time to the public at SIHH in April 2007.

In April 2008, the Montblanc Star Nicolas Rieussec chronograph calibers MB R100 and MB R200 are introduced.
